Update August 20, 2025

Got the story published, now to get an update out!

Health
I finally got to try out my first Symbravo.  It's the pill Dr. C gave me to try and knock down a migraine once it starts.  It was a moderate migraine... brain fog bad enough that I couldn't have worked but not a lot of pain otherwise.  So far as I know, the Symbravo didn't do anything.  The migriane continued to get worse through the day but only lasted the one day.  I still have two more pills to try before I have a follow up appointment in early October.  I'm sure I'll have another migraine or two before then so we'll see how it goes.

I had more alarms from my continuous glucose monitor so I reduced my insulin dose to 14.  It went well for awhile, but I had another low glucose warning last night and this is six days after I changed the sensor out so... I don't know.

I got sick and tired of the CPAP.  It was making sleep difficult.  Difficult to get to sleep, difficult to stay asleep.  It didn't help with the headaches at all and was making me MORE tired through the day.  I know if I got more used to it... I only used it for a couple weeks... it might get back to feeling 'normal', but I had no expectations I'd feel better.  So, one day after I found out that the sleep test cost me ANOTHER fee of almost $500, I just took it back.  I'll keep the sleep doctor appointment in early October, but I don't expect much to happen.

I had the treadmill stress test.  As expected, I was out of breath soon after starting it BUT as I'm a few years older I didn't have to get my heart rate quite as high so I technically 'passed' the test.  They didn't find any major blockages so its the same diagnosis... exercise intolerant.  I have no new instructions from the cardiologist so I'll follow up with him in 2026.

Finally, I had an appointment with my mental health nurse practitioner.  It went fine.  I mentioned that I was anxious and angry because of the whole 'work' thing.  She picked up on that and almost wanted to see me earlier just to check in... but I'm fine.  The tools she and my therapist gave me are keeping me from spiraling with this anxiety.  So, we set up another follow up for three months.

I think at this point, I'm on cruise health wise until my follow up appointments in October and November.

Finances
My Long Term Disability Claim is finally CLOSED!!!!  I received the last check from them last month.  I pulled the money out of my 401K and used that in the middle of this month for bills.  I'll continue to eat through that pile of money and it should last me several more months.  Hopefully enough time to get me a job.

I'd talk more about the whole job thing, but I have a post series dedicated to that.  Otherwise finances are fine.

Family/Friends
B is still dealing with his anxiety issue.  I guess he hasn't gone in to work this week (Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday) all because of his anxiety.  I'm not sure about today.  I wish there was more that I could do... but I know that he has to work through his meds.

We've had a family crisis of cars.  Through my recent car shopping posts you know about my sister in law's car dying, the purchase of her new (to her) Ford Edge, and then IT dying.  To maintain her ability to get out and about, she's borrowed Mom's Escape.  Again.  It's not a huge deal as Mom really only uses her car to go to and from her doctor's appointments.  And R drives her at those times.  With my sister in law having the Escape, that still leaves our house with R's Grand Cherokee and my Tatiana.  Mom fits in R's Grand Cherokee just fine so long as it's temporary.

Well, yesterday R's Grand Cherokee broke down.  It's been a long line of problems with his car.  None of it has been major, but its SO freaking expensive.  For instance, right now it has a problem with the air ride suspension.  This can go from 8 to almost 11 inches of ground clearance.  R normally just keeps it in its highest setting as he's not worried about speed or mileage.  But for the past year when it's been parked for more than a day, the front air suspension lets go and it sags down.  It builds right back up when he turns it on and it maintains the height like normal when he's driving around without excessive air pump usage... but it still fails when parked for awhile.  He put several hundred into diagnosis and parts and it still didn't fix it.  I forget exactly what the dealership suggested next, but I remember it was like $2000.  So now his Grand Cherokee just has this problem that is annoying but not really a problem.

Well, R has known he has a problem coming with the starter.  Occasionally it refuses to turn over.  He can fix it by simply waiting or at worst putting a screwdriver on the starter and tapping it with a hammer.  But the other day while he was at the store it refused to start.  Waiting for over 20 minutes and beating the hell out of it didn't work this time.  It just refused to start.  Fuck.

We can't exactly go without and we can't afford to have R 'try' and fix it.  First, the starter isn't in an easy place to get to.  It'd be several hours for a professional mechanic, meaning probably a full day or more for R.  So he called around to several shops to get quotes and decided on one (it's sad that after all these years, we don't have a good mechanic that we trust).  In the meantime, he's driving around in Tatiana.

His first problem with Tatiana was the audio.  I have Tatiana set up to use Android Auto for music.  So when he starts it up and my phone isn't there, it just sits silently.  And when he clicks on the 'music' symbol on the screen it doesn't take him to an 'audio' screen, it takes him to the 'failed to connect to Android Auto' screen.  So, R just left it and listened to the wind passing by.  He also had problems with the squircle steering wheel and the grabby breaks.  Both things he'd eventually get used to if he had to drive Tatiana for longer than a day or two.

Yesterday he took Tatiana over to see if he could get his car started and then drive it over to the mechanic to get the starter replaced.  It didn't start so he called for a tow truck and just sat there in Tatiana and waited.  He was texting with me and the family about his boredom and I remembered the 'Rejuvenate' feature of the new Nautilus'.  It's actually one of the premier features only available on the upper levels of trim.  When you go into the Rejuvenate it leans the seat way back, puts on the seat massager, plays either some ethereal music, some soundscape sounds, or has a voice leading you into some relaxation techniques.  It will then use all of the screens to show off a 'scene'.  R of course chose the waterfall scene that played that as a soundscape.

He loved it!

And seriously, as I wrote the above paragraph, R got a call and his Grand Cherokee is ready to pick up!  I was going to go into this whole soliloquy on how it was a pain to be down to one vehicle but it only lasted for a day and a half.  No problem!

Entertainment
I finished Cobra Kai and Karate Kid Legends.  Both are... meh.  They're fine.  Not great, but good if you like Karate Kid.  I think the series went on for maybe a season or two too long as the story lines started to drag on and on and repeat themselves.  The movie was just far too short.  It didn't get its teeth into any part of it.

I wasn't in the right mood to jump back into Mayor of Kingstown so instead, after catching some interesting shorts, I started Invincible.  The animated superhero show on Amazon Prime.  It's good so far.  Interesting.  I'm on the second season out of three and they have a fourth season coming.  I should be done with it soon enough.

Movie wise I got to catch Superman, both in the theater a few weeks ago and now on Digital.  I'd have to say it's a very good to great superhero movie.  Not at Civil War or Infinity War / Endgame level, but as good as Man of Steel.  I like that it's going in a different direction than the whole 'serious' and 'dark' way that DC movies have been going lately.  It's brightly colored and comparatively light.  I mean, Superman doesn't swear.  He says Gosh and What The Heck.  It's hilarious!  And now that the surprise of Superman's parent's message isn't as sharp, I can actually like the story behind it.  The fact that he is the man that his choices made him, and not the path laid out by his birth parents.  It's nice and feels good.

New Tech
I'm ready to buy a new phone.  I wake up now with my phone down to 20% or lower.  I put it on the wireless charger for a few hours until its at 80%.  I then take it off and rarely touch it through the day.  At night it sits a little closer to me and then in the morning it all starts over.  When I was on my Texas trip it wouldn't make it through a full day.  Not while it was in my hand and getting used, not while I was snapping pics, not while it was just playing music in the car.  So, battery wise, it just needs to be replaced.   Later today there is the Made by Google event at 1 PM.  I'll watch that and they'll announce the Pixel 10 line including a new foldable (Pixel Pro Fold 10?  Pixel 10 Pro Fold?).  Unless there is some surprise that makes it suck, I'll be ordering one of those.  Hopefully in a fun color.

Writing
I finished Gamer Gurl 2: Evolutions and am currently publishing it on Fictionmania.  I wrote the posts for it here and on my main blog.  Later, maybe today, maybe tomorrow, I'll dig into my next story and start digging into my plans for that.  All I know is that it will be the "You're Not The Boss Of Me" storyline.  I just don't know if I'll use what I've already written, if I'll start over, or if I'll do a combination.

Michigan Football
We're officially in Week 0!  There is a game on this weekend.  Kansas State vs Iowa State in Dublin!  Unfortunately there isn't much else on this weekend and it doesn't even have Game Day.  Game Day starts next week and will be Lee Corso's final show.  That'll be a good week of games including Michigan's first game and Texas @ Ohio State (with Game Day there!)

Computer Issues
Same issues.  Apple Music is still a little flakey.  Google Chrome is a little flakey.  And the whole computer is acting slow lately.  I'm considering doing another format/restore.  But then again, it's not like I do enough with the computer to warrant the day and a half to set it back up again.   I dunno... it pisses me off, just not a lot.
