I watched mom die
This is one of those strange narratives where the 'peak' of the story isn't the end. I kind of feel like I'm currently living through the epilogue of this story because 'I watched my mother die' really can't be topped. I guess I should start there... I watched my mom die on the morning of May 1st, 2023. As of now, May 6th, she's still alive, but I did watch her die. To understand all of that we'll have to travel backwards and then take it in chronological order.

Can a job be too easy?
Can a job be too easy? It seems like a simple question, but I'm honestly have to answer it and all the sub questions that come with it. What exactly defines 'easy' when it comes to a job. Is it better to have a difficult job or an easy one? Is it okay to be around people that complain about how difficult their easy job is? Let's dig into this because its all relevant.

The New Job

On June 13, 2022 I started my first real new job as a registered nurse. I no longer work for the department of corrections and now work for the department of health and human services. I'm still in orientation, and will probably still be in orientation for another couple weeks at least, but I think I've been there long enough to open up and talk about it now.

Light Thoughts
I re-read my last post and.... boy, that might have been the nadir. The low point. The end of the line. While it didn't exactly get better starting two months ago, we did start to hire nurses right around then. And that little glimmer of hope was enough to see, both in my own actions and in the eyes of the nurses I supervise. To date, we have two RNs and one LPN out of orientation with three more RNs in orientation. That's enough to cut down the overtime by about half.
There might be light at the end of this tunnel yet.

Work and Nursing
This isn't going to be easy to write. When I generally go down a path like this, looking at options of how the near future of my life will go, I tend to make a change. And I'm not sure I want to make a change.

This could be it!
It shouldn't be a surprise that this has been a bad year and a half for me. My brother goes through, and is still going through, a bad time in his life. COVID-19 stomps its way through our society, eating everything in its path. My aunt dies. I have my mom move out to keep her safe, then trade places with her and move out myself. My hours at work change to a time that conflicts with my body mechanics. I go through some minor, but scary, health scares. The politics get scary, get better, get scarier, then get back to normal gridlock.

Work is Hell
I have to wonder how much of me changing jobs is a desire to do something new and how much is a growing dismay at my current predicament. This week was fucking hell at work and I swear I haven't thought this much about quitting a job in years.

Rise and Shine... at 0430?
I primarily want to write about the vaccination process, but I'm also going to add updates on the computer, on cars, and returning to a normal schedule and what all that means.

Vaccinations and other updates!
This will be one of those 'lots of little updates' posts. Let's see... I want to talk about taxes, computer upgrades, car dreams, vaccinations, work future, weather, music and music services, new meds, and maybe some more. Let's start with filing my 2020 taxes.

'Rona just won't leave me alone
Damned disease. I've been having some symptoms of 'Rona, but I've been having various symptoms for months. A little extra cough here, a little sore throat there. Nothing big. Especially since at work we've been tested every week since September. All negative results. Well, this week I was a little extra paranoid.
